Eligibility

Hamden Adult Education programs are open to all residents who are over 17 years of age. Non-residents are welcome to participate in the enrichment program.

Tuition and Fees

Persons enrolled in Adult Basic Skills, ESL, GED, Citizenship, and High School Diploma Programs are exempt from tuition. Residents enrolled in enrichment courses must pay the designated fee by check, money order, or credit card.

Books and Materials

Books and materials for all Enrichment classes will be purchased by students at their own expense. If supplies are to be purchased before class, we recommend you confirm your class before purchasing supplies.

Class Cancellations

Any class may be cancelled for insufficient enrollment or for any other reason beyond the control of the Adult Education Director.

Storm Day Policy

Adult Education classes are automatically cancelled if Hamden or North Haven Public Schools are closed during the day. If the weather deteriorates during a scheduled school day necessitating canceling evening classes, an announcement will be made on Channels 3, 30, and 8 before 3:30 pm. If school is delayed, classes at Hamden Adult Education located at the Keefe Community Center begin at their scheduled time. Check website: www.hamdenadulted.org.

Refunds

  • If Hamden Adult Education cancels a course, all tuition will be refunded
  • Tuition credit minus a $15 processing fee will be issued if a written refund request is received one week before the class starts
  • No credit thereafter
  • Bus trip refunds must be requested as noted under each trip description
  • All refunds for credit card transactions processed over 90 days past the original transaction will be in the form of a credit voucher or check

No Smoking

Hamden Public School buildings and grounds are SMOKE FREE. Board Policy P-1331 adopted 11-12-97.

Gift Certificates

Certificates may be purchased at the Adult Education Office or through our site.

Persons with Disabilities

Students who needs assistance to gain access to classrooms, or any other accommodations for effective communication should contact Nadine Gannon, Hamden Adult Education (203.407.2028) before the event so the necessary accommodations may be provided.  Anyone who needs special GED test accommodations must make the request within their GED.com account. The adult education program is committed to making all course offerings accessible. Senior Citizens

Adults 62 years and older are entitled to a 15% discount on all courses except single session classes, bus trips, and other classes noted.

The Board of Education prohibits sexual harassment or intimidation of its students and employees. Any student or employee who believes he or she has been the subject of discrimination or sexual harassment should contact the district’s Equity/Title IX Coordinator at 203.407.2059.

Returned Check Policy

Participants will be charged $35 for each check returned by the bank.
